Elected representation
Universitas Sriwijaya has appointed representatives of the highest governance of the university from students, faculties, and staff. One of them is the Senate of Universitas Sriwijaya. The Senate consists of the Board of Leaders, Commission 1, 2, and 3, and the Senate Secretariat. To ensure an inclusive and effective governance system at UNSRI, it is crucial to incorporate elected representatives from a diverse range of stakeholders in the university’s highest governing body. UNSRI has planned to establish a Board of Trustees consisting of elected representatives from students, faculties, and staff for the preparation of its PTN-BH status. UNSRI also has a network of alumni as a platform for the aspirations and potential among fellow alumni, as well as between alumni and the alma mater.

Students’ union
Universitas Sriwijaya recognizes the presence of student unions, associations, and organizations at the university, faculty, and departmental levels. These unions formed independently by students and for students aim to facilitate a forum of actualization of students’ intellectuality, social and political aspirations, and professional development through high impact activities in and out campus. The highest authority of the students’ union in UNSRI is the BEM KM UNSRI, or the Students’ Executive Board.

Identify and engage with local stakeholders
Universitas Sriwijaya identifies local stakeholders outside the university and involves them through various activities. UNSRI has established a Standard Operating Procedure of Cooperation activities in 2019 and the SOP has been in use and applied by the stakeholders, lecturers, and academics until now.

Participatory bodies for stakeholder engagement
UNSRI has taken further steps to foster engagement with local stakeholders beyond the confines of the university campus by establishing specialized research centers. Two noteworthy examples of these centers are the Sriwijaya Law Center and the Sriwijaya Cultural Study Center. These centers not only serve as hubs of academic inquiry but also as platforms for collaboration and interaction with the wider community. The Sriwijaya Law Center is dedicated to legal research and analysis, addressing pressing legal issues that impact the region. On the other hand, the Sriwijaya Cultural Study Center delves into the rich tapestry of local culture, contributing to a deeper understanding of the cultural heritage of Palembang and South Sumatera, which were once the center of ancient civilization of Sriwijaya Kingdom

University principles on corruption and bribery
Universitas Sriwijaya has consistently maintained a steadfast commitment to combating organized crime, corruption, and bribery, aligning with its core principles. Notably, within the university, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Economics have taken proactive measures by creating dedicated integrity zones where corrupt practices are strictly prohibited. This integrity-focused initiative included comprehensive awareness and outreach efforts, involving university leadership, program coordinators, academic faculty, administrative personnel, and students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Sriwijaya. This academic institution has taken significant steps to institutionalize its anti-corruption stance and promote ethical conduct within its academic community.

Academic Freedom Policy
As per the provisions outlined in Sriwijaya University’s Statute (Part V of the Regulation issued by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, under No. 17/2018), UNSRI is unwavering in its commitment to upholding the tenets of academic freedom, freedom of the academic platform, and scholarly independence. It is paramount to note that within UNSRI, the exercise of academic freedom, the freedom of academic discourse, and scholarly autonomy is meticulously conducted in a responsible manner, meticulously adhering to the principles and ethical standards that govern scholarly pursuits. The academic community at UNSRI is bestowed with the privilege to conscientiously engage in the advancement of knowledge and technology, guided by the principles underpinning the tridharma of higher education. Working with government
Provide expert advice to government
Universitas Sriwijaya provides specialized expert advice to local, regional, and national governments. At the regional level, UNSRI participates in the collaboration with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), has agreed to establish a Statistical Corner (Pojok Statistik) to be located at the Faculty of Economics of Sriwijaya University, along with Statistical Agents who will be assigned to the Statistical Corner at Sriwijaya University. The launch event for the Statistical Corner and Statistical Agents will be accompanied by a presentation and discussion on the continuation of the 2020 Population Census at the conclusion of the statistical corner launch activities.
Expert Advice to Central Bureau of Statistics in South Sumatera and Launching of Statistics Corner
Universitas Sriwijaya, in conjunction with a consortium of universities spanning seven districts/cities in South Sumatra, orchestrated the dissemination of findings under the theme “Enhancing Community Potential for Stunting Prevention through the Implementation of Five Pillars in the South Sumatra Province.” This collaborative effort unfolded as part of a joint venture between the Indonesian Rectors Forum (Forum Rektor Indonesia – FRI) and the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) during the year 2022.

Policy and lawmakers outreach and education
Universitas Sriwijaya takes an active role in fulfilling its commitment to disseminating information and education to policymakers and legislators through a range of initiatives. These include conducting awareness campaigns, providing scholarships, developing curricula, and establishing collaborative agreements. In April 2022, the Mayor of Pangkalpinang welcomed a delegation from Universitas Sriwijaya’s Postgraduate Program in Public Health, comprising leaders, faculty members, and students. The event culminated in the formalization of a partnership, as the Pangkalpinang City Government signed a memorandum of understanding with Universitas Sriwijaya.

Faculty of Public Health of Universitas Sriwijaya participates and reaches out to governmental officials in the Office of Health in Musi Banyuasin Regency. UNSRI takes an active role in conducting a two-day Workshop, focusing on Structural Officials in the Health Department, Heads of Health Centers (Puskesmas), and planning staff of Health Centers. This marks the university’s second Workshop and fourth Coordination Meeting in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

Participation in government research
Universitas Sriwijaya has collaborated with numerous institutions to provide full access to research activities in order to achieve sustainable development goals. The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UNSRI has provided professional assistance to one of the State-owned Enterprises. PT. Pertamina in the social mapping research in the Palembang Area. In relation to that, the social mapping joint research project also resulted in the publication of social capital for slum communities in Palembang City area.

Neutral platform to discuss issues
Universitas Sriwijaya serves as a neutral venue facilitating diverse public stakeholders to convene and deliberate on challenges. The university’s faculties consistently offer secure environments for public discourse, assembly, and engagement that encompass participants from various sectors, including government, corporations, and civil society. An illustrative instance is the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, which organized a public discussion on the history of the Sriwijaya Kingdom. Additionally, UNSRI, through the auspices of the Faculty of Law, provides a neutral platform for discussions on sensitive topics like the death penalty.
